  1. Voyager 1.0 Release Notes

  4. Voyager 1.0 is a freely distributable WWW browser for AmigaOS.
  5.  
  6. Its range of features covers:
  7.  
  8. o It's faaaast. On the average, Voyager outruns any other available Amiga
  9.   Web browser by a factor of two.
  10.  
  11. o Supports the full HTML-2 standard as described in RFC-1866, including forms. 
  12.   It doesn't want to be a reference implementation, though, and tries to make
  13.   the best even out of malformed documents.
  14.  
  15. o Supports many proposed so called HTML-3 extensions.
  16.  
  17. o Supports Client Side Image Maps.
  18.  
  19. o Supports Netscape-Level 1 (NHTML) extensions, including <center>, floating
  20.   images, background images and text coloring (both RGB and named colors).

  22. o Supports HTTP access authorization.
  23.  
  24. o Supports ftp, gopher and wais via proxy.
  25.  
  26. o Supports news: usenet news reading and posting.

  28. o Supports interfacing to mail readers and telnet clients for mailto:

  45. Voyager 1.0 is released now as a free gift to the Amiga community.  Our
  46. main development efforts are currently gearing towards the release of
  47. Voyager 2.0 (our internal name is "V - Next Generation"), which is

  57. Voyager 1.0 is provided free of charge.  It may be copied freely via ftp or
  58. web sites as long as the whole archive remains intact and no part is
  59. modified in any way.  Distribution via other means requires prior
  60. permission (which might normally be granted free of charge for "freeware
  61. compilation" disks or CDs).

  63. Voyager 1.0 is provided "as-is"; no warranties, either implied or expressed,
  64. are made regarding the viability of the program.  The entire risk of the
  65. use of Voyager is carried by the user.  If you don't agree to this license,
  66. you must not use it and delete all associated files immediately.

  69. Installation
  70. ------------
  71. Please use the provided installer script for correct installation.  You
  72. also need MUI 3.3 (preferably the release version; cracked version are
  73. known to cause trouble) and GIF and JPEG datatypes.  Voyager is known to
  74. work well with the V43 datatypes available on AmiNet; you might want to
  75. install them if you are running obscure datatypes and are experiencing
  76. crashes on page swaps.

  78. Voyager documentation is included in HTML format, it will be automatically
  79. loaded when you first start the program.

  82. Bugs
  83. ----
  84. Although Voyager has undergone thorough testing, it's very likely that bugs
  85. will remain.  If you find a bug, please report it to owagner@lsd.wupper.de.
  86. Don't forget to add a description on how to recreate the bug and a close
  87. description of your system. Please don't send enhancement requests
  88. or reports of misinterpreted or missing html stuff, because the html
  89. engine won't be changed in favour for the Voyager 2.0 release.

  92. Known problems
  93. --------------
  94. If you experience a straight crash when starting V, you're having a problem
  95. with your cache directory, most likely because you installed an old pirated
  96. alpha version before.  V alpha versions before 0.81 sometimes did
  97. SetComment() with more than 80 chars, triggering a very nasty bug in the
  98. FFS which disrupts partition data.  Install V in a different directory and
  99. try to get rid of the old cache directory.
  100.  
  101. If your system deadlocks during running V, you're most likely running an
  102. very old menu/cycletomenu hack commoditiy or a application using boopsi
  103. gadgetclass gadgets.  This is not a V bug, but a non-handled deadlock
  104. situation in the other application.  The same effect can be triggered with
  105. every other application that updates scroller gadgets under program control
  106. like V does (all GUI IRC clients, for example).  The solution is to put the
  107. buggy application to a different screen so the risk of a LockLayer()
  108. Intuition deadlock is reduced.  Note that this problem has been constantly
  109. reported by people who had run V and AWeb on the same screen for
  110. comparision purposes. Don't install a ObtainGIRPort()-Hack of any kind,
  111. otherwise you may risk your overall system stability.
